Poetry is the best words in the best order.
—Samuel Coleridge

If you are a writer, you know the feeling when words float in the air unwilling to move onto the page.

This April, I found the Twitter feed of @AlexPriceWriter. Alex provides a daily #CinquainPrompt that has become my secret salve for those wordless days. The constraints of the cinquain form create a safe sandbox for creativity. The short poem gives me a feeling of accomplishment.

I would like to say that after writing the cinquain the language floodgates open—sometimes—but it is enough to capture a fleeting thought in 2-4-6-8-2.

I’ve also discovered other poetic souls and Alex’s carefree, sublime, and often profound cinquains.

I have found my center in the cinquains.
