Storms of life bring constant change

In the middle of the cacophony, rain and storms are both frightening and cleansing.

Life is like that.

We need those moments of thrashing about and struggle to understand ourselves and the world around us.

Then there is the other side – the washing away of thoughts and feelings that no longer serve us. The ones that weigh us down with regret and melancholy. When I feel like giving up, I hold tightly to the words of Khalil Gibran.

“Out of suffering have emerged the strongest souls; the most massive characters are seared with scars.”

As sparks of blue litter the sky, we see hope. Not much changed since the storm began. But we, the earth, the plants, are changed. We may not realize or understand how. We just know.

A rainy day song for you

One of my favorite “rainy day” songs comes from Paul Simon, Kathy’s Song:

I hear the drizzle of the rain
Like a memory it falls
Soft and warm continuing
Tapping on my roof and walls…

And as I watch the drops of rain
Weave their weary paths and die
I know that I am like the rain
There but for the grace of you go I

Memories swirl across the days coloring the storms of life with hope. We build resilience one rainy day after another, when we remain open to change and possibilities.

One takeaway

Lean into the rain, sailing your ship, leaving behind all that does not serve your best.

And always—

Be kind. Be brave. Be you.
